Dr. Rashid Sumaila, Director of the UBC Fisheries Centre and the Fisheries Economics Research Unit, will speak at an event hosted by the Global Campaign for Climate Action at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday, April 30, 2012.
The event, From harmful subsidies to safe subsidies, has been coordinated as a Side Event of the Second Round of Rio+20 “Informal-informal” negotiations on the zero draft of the outcome document, published by the UN Conference on Sustainable Development. Dr. Sumaila will present an overview of the harmful impacts of fishing subsidies and how these may be mitigated.
