Dr. Rashid Sumaila, Director of the UBC Fisheries Centre and the Fisheries Economics Research Unit, has been appointed to the 2nd Johan Hjort Chair in Marine Economics and Management by the Nordic Centre of Excellence (NorMER – University of Oslo), recognizing his contributions to the field of ocean and fisheries economics, management and policy. The Johan Hjort Chairs are internationally recognized researchers who are selected for their contributions to marine science.
