
Dr. Ibtisam Al Abri
The Fisheries Economics Research Unit and the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries are happy to welcome Dr. Ibtisam Al Abri, who is visiting UBC until August 13, 2025.
Dr. Ibtisam Al Abri is an associate professor in the Department of Natural Resource Economics at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, as well as being Oman’s Assistant WTO Chair. At the governmental level, she serves as a consultancy expert at the Ministry of Finance and previously held the position of Economic Expert at the Central Bank of Oman, where she contributed to macroeconomic research, forecasting, and policy formulation. She holds a PhD and MSc in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida, USA. Al Abri’s research interests include economic and bioeconomic modeling, fisheries economics, risk management, non-market valuation, and economic forecasting, with a strong emphasis on informing sustainable development and evidence-based policy.
She will be working with FERU members in particular during her visit, and will be located in office 221.01.
